PRIDE

Hello again!

Today I wanna talk about the movie "PRIDE".

I think is an interesting movie, it show us the activism world of the opressed people in England in the 80's, or at least of a groups of them.

I really like this kind of movies that represent the rebel stories, people who foughts on the streets for their rights, people who was silent for many years, people who never gave up even if the whole world were against them, in this case the LGTB community and the mineworkers. I would totally recommend this film.

But also was many things that I didn't like about how it was put on the story. If I have to choose one character I like, I think she would be Sian, because her personality and determination.

I've already mentioned the things I like, so now I'll say the ones I don't. The representation of gender was just like always, men leading the movement, women helping them and being the support of the movement from the back.

Yes, there was a lot of interesting women characters, but how many times they talk to a public?, how many times they were actually leading the group or giving an inspiring speech? Only men do that, because they are "the minds and the heroes". Even the main characters were not totally agreed when the womans of the group were talking about the importance of create a women group only, the importance of talking about the woman's opression. I really didn't buy that equality if you keep the role genders, 'cause it still being misoginy.

My favorite scene probably was at the end, when the miners arrived to the pride march because I think it gives hope. I mean, that after all, if we are together, if we unite, we can defeat the goverment, the "status quo", that is, the oppressors.

Thanks for reading!

  1. That's why I liked Steph, I think she's the only woman with voice in this movie (Sian too)
